It was a top eight clash between two clubs that are the future of the AFL, being the Western Bulldogs and the Greater Western Sydney Giants. Both teams play a thrilling brand of fast paced football. They take many risks with the run and carry, yet thus far, fortune has favoured the brave in these two sides.
On Sunday at Spotless Stadium, things could have turned badly for the GWS Giants. Despite coming out of the blocks very quickly, the Giants suffered two nasty injuries and with a huge national audience watching and listening to the game, they could have lost their nerve and lost the footballing public’s confidence. Instead with steely resolve, the Giants dug deep, worked extremely hard and covered for their two injured team mates and won an inspiring victory against class opposition. One player who was part of a magnificent team effort was Adam Kennedy. “Kennas” as he is affectionately known amongst the Orange Army, put in a rock solid performance at the back where he was much needed when key defenders in Tim Mohr and Matt Buntine suffered game ending injuries.
Originally hailing from the Melton Football Club and then the Western Jets in the Under 18 AFL/TAC Cup competition, Adam Kennedy has worked hard to consolidate his place in the Giants backline. He’s one of the “originals” playing in the club’s first game back in 2012 and over the past few seasons has amassed 70 games for the club. Last year he only managed seven games for the year, but this season has seen Kennedy already beat that tally by playing 9 games and has been a consistent performer in the Giants backline.
