During his stump speech at the Iowa State Fair, Rick Perry asked if there was a hook behind him to drag him off the stage. On Friday it showed up.
Perry’s fall in the campaign was incredible considering he looked so confident and impressive in his initial August ’11 speeches in Iowa.
His promise of “getting America working again” seemed to click with Iowans, yet down the track Perry made gaffe after gaffe, stumbled during debates and support dried up.
Perry was full of typical Texas pride and a can do attitude. It may have worked in the past, but voters want more than just bravado. They are seeking real polices that will create jobs.
Correct, Governor Perry has a strong job creation record in Texas, yet when he was asked about the detail required during a presidency he failed.
Stating past results aren't enough in this race, you have to appear to be competent on the stump, answering the hard questions with skill and clarity.
On the positive side Perry floated ideas that will be of use to the Republicans. His main campaign theme at the beginning was jobs. This is the issue that needs to be hammered home to the Obama camp.
The people are fed up with hearing florid speeches about change and the “yes we cans”. The disturbing pictures last year of people stampeding in Dallas just for rent assistance application forms was sobering. If you believed the Obama rhetoric in 2008 such scenes would be unimaginable. Under his stewardship the country has become an economic quagmire.
In Obama’s birth-state of Hawaii on the beaches in Waianae there are hundreds of tents of homeless people.
They were there during the 2008 election and remain today. These shameful scenes should be addressed by the hometown guy, yet in typical Obama fashion, the attention to speech craft carries far more importance.
The Republicans need to use these examples to illustrate how the Obama government is unable to solve unacceptable situations.
For Rick Perry he found out that being big in Texas wasn't enough to stave off the stagehand hook.
Texas Governor Rick Perry began his campaign impressively in Iowa.
